Iran has launched a barrage of ballistic missiles toward Israel, in what Iranian media describe as "painful revenge" for recent attacks on its nuclear facilities.
The Israeli military confirmed it is actively working to intercept the incoming threat and has urged all citizens to stay close to protected spaces such as bomb shelters.
Air raid sirens have been heard, and loud explosions reported in both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, according to local sources.
An Israeli military official stated, "Dozens of Iranian ballistic missiles are en route to Israel. The people of Israel have been instructed to remain in bomb shelters until further notice."
The Israel Defense Forces had earlier indicated that its assault on Tehran could last up to two weeks. The overnight strikes reportedly killed several Iranian military commanders and top officials at their homes and headquarters in a highly coordinated attack.
Codenamed Operation Rising Lion, the Israeli strikes targeted Iranian military sites and nuclear facilities, significantly escalating regional tensions and raising fears of a broader Middle East conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the operation struck a nuclear facility in Natanz, along with components of Iran’s ballistic missile program.
In response, Iran vowed "painful revenge," with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning that Israel would face "severe punishment."
The United States has distanced itself from the Israeli strikes, cautioning Tehran against retaliating by targeting American bases in the region. Iran, however, warned that the U.S. would "pay a heavy price" alongside Israel if it became involved.
