Tragedy Averted as Collapsed Building Hits RCCG Church in Lagos

Worshippers at a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) branch in Lagos narrowly escaped death on Monday after a building under construction collapsed onto the church structure.

According to reports, the incident occurred while members were gathered inside the church for activities. The yet-to-be-completed building, located adjacent to the church, suddenly gave way, causing part of the debris to fall on the church.

Confirming the incident, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), said emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene to prevent further disaster.

“This was a potentially tragic situation that was averted by swift emergency intervention,” Dr Oke-Osanyintolu stated. “Fortunately, there were no reports of loss of life, though the affected church building suffered some structural damage.”

He further explained that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collapse and whether construction guidelines were followed.

Local residents expressed relief that no fatalities were recorded, praising the quick response of emergency services.
