The Club World Cup kicks off this weekend, and participating clubs are set for a major financial windfall from the tournament.

Chelsea and Manchester City are the two English sides involved, and each could earn up to £97 million from the lucrative competition. Even the lowest-performing team is guaranteed a multi-million-pound payout simply for taking part in the US-based event.

The tournament begins on 14 June (UK time), and fans can catch every match for free right here.

European clubs will receive a minimum of £9.9 million just for participating—more than clubs from any other region. According to organisers, this is due to both "sporting and commercial" considerations.

One European club, valued highest in those terms, will collect £29 million before even kicking a ball.

Additional prize money is on offer during the group stages, with teams earning £1.5 million for a win and £800,000 for a draw. For smaller clubs, these figures could be transformative.

Earnings increase significantly in the knockout rounds:

  • Round of 16: £5.8 million

  • Quarter-finals: £10.1 million

  • Semi-finals: £16.2 million

  • Losing finalist: £23.2 million

  • Tournament winner: £30 million

Altogether, the winning team could walk away with approximately £97 million—an amount close to the Champions League prize pool.

This prize fund is backed by sponsorship from Saudi Arabia’s state oil company Aramco and its sovereign wealth fund PIF, alongside a massive £800 million broadcast rights deal with streaming platform DAZN.

Despite this heavy investment, DAZN is offering all 63 matches to viewers completely free—anyone can stream the games online or through the DAZN app on smart TVs by simply signing up for a free account.
